Grant Holloway Wins Pro Debut in HungaryPublished by
Strong Sprints Highlight Gyulai Istvan Memorial in HungaryBy Adam Kopet Grant Holloway won his first race as a pro Tuesday at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Hungary, running 13.16 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. Holloway, who broke the collegiate record June 7 in winning the 110 hurdles in a world-leading 12.98 at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships, turned pro with one season of eligibility remaining at Florida and signed with adidas. His first race since turning pro found him crossing the line first, 0.02 seconds ahead of Gabriel Constantino of Brazil. "I felt that Grant did a good job, not great, but good," Florida coach Mike Holloway said. "The importance of this race wasn’t the win or the time, but that Grant now realizes that he has run the 110 hurdles and execute at a high level, no matter the name of the meet or who’s in the race." In other sprint events, Christian Coleman and Shaunae Miller-Uibo were both victorious in the 200 meters. Coleman ran a season's best 19.91 to win over reigning world champion Ramil Guliyev of Turkey. It is Coleman's fastest time since he ran 19.85 during the 2017 NCAA season. Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas was also a winner, running 22.18 in her 200-meter season debut. She had already run world-leading 300 and 400 meters in separate races this season. More news |
